Independence
Who funds this
Nobody. This site currently earns nothing and is funded by the people who write it. No brand, clinic, laboratory or supplement company has paid us, given us product, or had any input into anything published here.
Arrangements we have ruled out in advance
It is easier to refuse these before money is on the table, so we are writing them down now.
- No paid reviews or placements. Nobody buys a position in a comparison table, or a mention.
- No sponsored content. Not labelled, not unlabelled.
- No per-patient referral fees to practitioners. Paying or receiving a fee per referred patient runs into state fee-splitting and patient-brokering law, and it also corrupts the recommendation. If we ever list practitioners it will be a flat listing fee unrelated to whether anyone books.
- No supplement line of our own. The moment we sell a product we join the group of publishers whose product conclusions cannot be trusted, and that is the entire gap this site exists to fill.
- No selling the mailing list, ever, and no health data to advertisers under any circumstances.
Where our incentives still point the wrong way
Honest independence pages name the remaining conflicts rather than claiming there are none.
- We intend to earn commission on some products eventually. That creates a pull toward writing about things that are purchasable and away from writing “none of these are worth buying”, which is sometimes the correct answer. Our defence is a hard rule that a limitation gets printed whether or not it costs us a sale, plus a disclosures page that names everything.
- Traffic rewards confident writing, and confidence is exactly what this field should not have. We accept ranking worse for saying “this is contested”.
